Voicing – Chapter 25 – On a Quest for Christ

“Here’s the microphone. Tell us what you think!”

For the average person, speaking in public is so distasteful, it ranks right up there with paying taxes and dying. Yet for many of us, even expressing ourselves in private is a challenge. Do we have anything important to say? Will anyone care?

For some, speaking our minds comes naturally. We know what to say and how to say it. For others, it’s not quite so simple. We may be reluctant to talk because of past experience. Or maybe we don’t know what to say and believe our voice is of no consequence. Either way, something is lost in the silence.

How can we overcome our reluctance to speak out and let our voices sing? Perhaps we hesitate because we discount our value to God. But he has uniquely created each person with a message to share. It’s time to remove the “70% off” sales stickers we’ve plastered to our foreheads and tell the stories we are meant to tell.

In the end, it is a question of faith and trust. Perhaps this is one of the great secrets of devout men and women through the centuries. Their voices rose from deep within, speaking what God had given them to say. Some were well received. Some were not. Yet all were grounded in a deep faith that simply knew and loved God—no more, no less.
