I was at a conference recently and heard an interesting comment. “It’s really easy to be an idiot and climb all over your neighbor to get ahead. It’s a lot harder to be led by love because you may be crucified in the end.”
Wow – that’s insightful! It IS easier to be clever and do whatever it takes to be successful. Many would consider that to be a productive, or even a flourishing life. It’s also the easiest path because you don’t really have to do anything out of the ordinary.
But the life of love can be a much rockier way. When we try to see Christ in others and treat them as the children of God we know ourselves to be, staying on the path requires much effort. Plus, instead of a positive reward, sometimes we’re left with only pain.
But in the end, isn’t this the better road for us – a life well lived?
What do you think?
