Do you long to feel connected but it just isn’t happening? Perhaps you’re looking for acceptance and nurture from your family. Maybe you yearn for close relationships with friends. Is your heart searching for a life-long mate? Whatever the cause, the need to belong is a deeply human desire.
Some of us feel a sense of belonging from the very beginning of our lives. We know we are loved and cherished. For many others it is an elusive dream, a fantasy that seems forever out of reach. Sometimes it’s hard to remember a time when we did belong.
Most of us yearn for our special place in the world—the place where we belong and all is safe and warm. When we are denied that sense of connectedness, our need grows stronger. We desperately search for the human bond we lack, but don’t have a clue how to find it.
If belonging is a basic human need, why do we forget the one special place that always feels right? Someone is there who never forgets us and has our names engraved on the palm of his hand. With God, we’re never “missing in action.” He knows where we are every minute of the day.
