In an earlier blog post, I told the story of a Christian man who believed that a leader always does the right thing. As I pondered that thought, I remembered this quote which had appeared in my inbox some time ago:
“Cowardice asks the question: is it safe? Expediency asks the question: is it politic? Vanity asks the question: is it popular? But conscience asks the question: is it right? And there comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular – but one must take it simply because it is right.” (Martin Luther King Jr.)
Wow. Here is another real-life example of following God’s call to do what is right, even at the ultimate personal cost.
Perhaps it’s not only leaders who must do the right thing. God calls each of us, in our own way, to stand for him. Are you up to the challenge?
